Self-Care

Before calling us to book an appointment please check your symptoms at NHS Inform to see if your health issue is one which can be managed through self-care advice and medications available from your pharmacy.

A large number of health conditions resolve themselves after a short time, or can be treated with self -care advice or simple over the counter medications available from your local pharmacy.  Many of these medications can be accessed free of charge via the Pharmacy First Scheme

Appointments System

We offer a timed appointment system for all appointments.
 
Please phone the surgery to book or attend to book during our opening hours. You can choose a face-to-face appointment or a telephone appointment if you prefer (if examination will not be required).
 
For some problems you will be asked to come for face-to-face appointment.
 
Each day there are some slots that can only be booked on the day for problems that need urgent attention. Many of these are with our highly trained Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
 
Please phone as early as possible from 8.30 if you feel you need to be seen urgently.

When you make an appointment, you may request a preference for any of the doctors in the practice. Please understand that it is not always possible for you to see a specific doctor at a given time.

GP Consultations are held during the following times:

  • Tuesdays  07:30  - 18:00
  • Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.

Our nurses are available by appointment:

  • Monday to Thursday 08:30 - 16:30
  • Friday 08:30 - 13:45

Telephone Advice

It is usually possible to speak to a doctor although we prefer not to be interrupted during a consultation. We cannot specify an exact time when the doctor will call you back as it will depend on when they are available.

 

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception as early as possible and before 11am.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP only visits you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

In addition, there are Community Nurses who offer home visits to deal with problems such as wounds, dressings, injections and many other problems in patients who are housebound.  The number for community nursing is 0141-355-2180

You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

 

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
