GP appointments

GP appointments are available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

These are pre-bookable by phoning reception. You may have to wait a bit longer if you wish to see a particular GP. We value continuity of care and are keen for the same GP to follow up patients about a particular problem where possible.

Some appointments are bookable only on the day only, for urgent problems that cannot wait. Please phone as early as possible if you require an on-the-day appointment (the phone lines open at 8:30am).

Our highly trained and very experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Sister Joanne Brannan, deals with many of the urgent on-the-day problems and can prescribe medications and refer where necessary.

If all our appointments are full you may be asked to wait until the next day or if the problem cannot wait to contact NHS 24 on 111.

Self-Care

Before calling us to book an appointment please check your symptoms at NHS Inform to see if your health issue is one which can be managed through self-care advice and medications available from your pharmacy.

A large number of health conditions resolve themselves after a short time, or can be treated with self -care advice or simple over the counter medications available from your local pharmacy.  Many of these medications can be accessed free of charge via the Pharmacy First Scheme

Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant

Our excellent Practice Nurse Sister Findlay specialises in Chronic disease management - high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, COPD, heart disease, stroke. She carries out reviews for patients with these conditions.

She carries out cervical smears, family planning, sexual health screening and well person checks. She provides health promotion support eg help with lifestyle changes such as weight management, smoking cessation and exercise.

Sister Findlay is available by appointment:

  • Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 08:30 - 16:00

Our very competent and experienced Health Care Assistant Theresa Logan provides BP checks, injections, simple dressings, some annual chronic disease reviews and initial assessment and blood tests for certain symptoms (eg dizziness, hair loss, fungal toenails) before assessment by a GP.

Theresa is available by appointment:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 09:30 - 14:30

Home Visits

Home visits are for patients who are housebound. If you request a visit the GP will phone you first and will arrange to visit if they think your medical condition requires it. Please be prepared to provide suitable details to the receptionist to help the doctor to schedule home visits.

If you do need a home visit, please call reception as early as possible, and before 11am.

The Community Nurses offer home visits to deal with problems such as wounds, dressings, injections and many other problems in patients who are housebound.  The number for community nursing is 0141-355-2180

You will also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time. If you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

 

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
